The FĂ©dĂ©ration Rwandaise de Football Association (FERWAFA) has officially announced a prestigious opportunity for experienced and highly qualified football professionals to take charge of the Rwanda Senior Men’s National Team (Amavubi).
This strategic appointment comes as part of FERWAFA’s long-term vision to strengthen Rwanda’s competitiveness on the continental and global football stage, including CECAFA, AFCON, and FIFA competitions.
Position Overview
- Job Title: Head Coach, Senior Men’s National Team
- Location: Kigali, Rwanda (with extensive regional and international travel)
- Contract Type: Fixed-term, performance-based
- Reporting Line: FERWAFA President and relevant Standing Committee, through the General Secretary
- Start Date: Immediately

Role Purpose
The Head Coach will be responsible for leading, managing, and developing the Amavubi with the objective of achieving sustained competitive excellence. The role demands strong leadership, advanced tactical expertise, and alignment with FERWAFA’s National Football Development Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Coach the Senior Men’s National Team in all official and friendly matches
- Ensure full compliance with FERWAFA, CAF, and FIFA regulations
- Design and implement structured training programs
- Select eligible and high-performing players for national duty
- Develop match strategies and provide real-time tactical guidance
- Motivate and manage players before, during, and after matches
- Delegate tasks effectively to assistant coaches
- Represent the National Team in authorized media engagements
- Submit an annual action plan within two months of contract signing
Technical Development Duties
The Head Coach will also:
- Provide strong leadership to improve team performance and standards
- Plan and prepare for international competitions and friendly matches
- Propose and manage training camps locally and internationally
- Work with FERWAFA to build and maintain a comprehensive player database
Note: Representation at CAF and FIFA events remains the responsibility of the Technical Director or General Secretary unless otherwise invited.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- CAF Pro Licence or UEFA Pro Licence (or equivalent internationally recognized qualification)
- A tertiary qualification in Sport Science, Coaching, or Football Management (added advantage)
- Experience with performance analysis tools, including GPS-based tracking systems (added advantage)
- Fluency in English and/or French (fluency in both is an advantage)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and man-management skills
- Proven success in multicultural football environments
- Advanced tactical and analytical ability
- Excellent communication and media relations skills
- High standards of professionalism, discipline, and teamwork
Selection Criteria
To be considered, candidates must meet all of the following:
- UEFA Pro, CAF Pro, or CAF A Coaching License
- Minimum 10 years of coaching experience at a high professional level
- At least 5 years coaching a Senior National Team
- Proven experience leading a national team in major competitions such as AFCON, CECAFA, CHAN, UEFA, AFC, or equivalent tournaments.
